Reduce fuel consumption

To reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the automotive industry has had to rely on cylinder downsizing and deactivation, generating higher pressures for combustion engines. However, this leads to increased engine vibrations.

Active Engine Mounts (AEMs) eliminate vehicle vibrations thanks to specially generated “compensating” movements, which neutralize the incoming engine vibrations.

The basic principle is to neutralize the vibrations of the incoming sine wave by applying “compensating” movements that are electrically generated and set to the same frequency.

AEM ENGINE MOUNTS

What are they?

AEM Active Engine Mounts (AEM) offer improved ride comfort and improve the vehicle’s vibration-absorbing performance.

The materials used for the production of an arm can be different:

The number and shape of the arms is strictly linked to the type of suspension adopted by the parent company:

What are they for?

Structurally, the arms connect the wheel to the frame via silent blocks and the joint. The silent blocks are made of rubber and metal and are positioned on the side of the frame, while the joint is positioned on the wheel side. The silent blocks ensure the arm’s flexibility, while the joint allows the wheel to move.
The proper functioning of shock absorbers and the entire suspension component group is directly related to the functioning of the control arms. Their task is to transmit loads, braking torque, and traction forces in all directions.
Since they absorb all the stresses of the vehicle’s operation, silent blocks are the components most subject to wear. When the rubber deteriorates, it loses elasticity and the function of the control arm is compromised.

The Range

Original Birth was the first IAM company to patent a metering diaphragm for oil passage in hydraulic engine mounts.

The cutting-edge design of the membrane allowed for a passage calibrated according to the stresses generated by engine vibrations.

This innovation was a pioneer of the now consolidated hydraulic technologies of our day.

Attention:
• Even a slightly damaged control arm can be very dangerous, especially when the vehicle is in motion. For this reason, Original Birth recommends periodic checks on the control arms to ensure their integrity and full functionality.
• Improper operation of the arms could cause abnormal tire wear.
• Opting for a cast iron arm on a car that originally had a steel one may seem economically advantageous but it would be risky because it is not suitable for the load studied in the design.
• One of the most common warning signs of a suspension arm’s condition is noise. Noises can be heard even when simply turning the steering wheel or even when the car is stationary. Other malfunction indicators may include: wheel alignment failure, instability and the vehicle’s inability to maintain its trajectory, or front tire wear on one side.
• Loud noise from the arm may be due to a blocked joint, which could cause poor stability and the wheels to lock.
• Any breakage of the silent blocks compromises the vehicle’s handling, comfort, and driving safety. These problems are identifiable when strong vibrations are felt.

icona Tips

• Suspension arms should always be replaced in pairs to ensure correct operation.
• Improper assembly could compromise the correct life of the new arm installed.
• It is recommended not to tighten the frame bolts while the front wheels are still suspended.
• Once the replacement has been carried out, it is good practice to carry out the wheel alignment, as the operations carried out can easily alter the correct position of the suspension and consequently the set-up of the car.

Original Birth

Always keeping up with the latest innovations offered by new technologies, AEM adds Active Engine Mounts (AEM) to its range of anti-vibration components.

Don’t forget! Original Birth , in addition to engine mounts, AEM offers a wide range of products: components for the cooling, steering and suspension systems, engine, suspension and transmission mounts and plugs, axle shaft and steering box boots, wheel hubs, pedals, EGR valves and many more.
