Oil Radiator

What are they?

The oil cooler , also known as a heat exchanger, is a metal component introduced in supercharged engines which, due to the ever-increasing temperatures in the combustion chamber or in the exhaust gases, subject the engine oil to much greater stress than previous engines.

Generally made of aluminum alloy, it contains two coils joined by aluminum plates that have the function of dispersing the heat.

It is crossed by two distinct fluids that must never mix: the engine oil on one side and the coolant on the other side of the cooling circuit.

It has two connections, for the entry and exit of the oil and coolant.

What are they for?

The oil cooler prevents the engine oil from overheating

which could also damage the oil filter with the risk of cellulose fragments entering the circuit.

As the engine runs, the progressive increase in temperature leads to a reduction in the oil’s viscosity and its lubricating functionality, which is why the oil temperature must be reduced.

The overheated engine oil in the combustion chamber enters the heat exchanger to be cooled by the coolant before returning to the engine.

It is important that the oil radiator has the number of fins specified by the manufacturer (the more fins there are, the more heat transfer occurs).

The range

The range of Original Birth heat exchangers is among the widest on the European market with car park coverage of over 90%.

It includes over 230 codes, many of which also include an oil filter.

Our products:

  • Original Birth oil coolers are designed and manufactured to OE standards
  • Supplied with O-Ring when required by the manufacturer.
  • The gaskets used are made internally with top quality rubber, resistant to grease, ozone and high temperatures.
  • A 100% inspection is carried out and confirmed by a test stamp.

Attention:

  • Hazelnut-colored emulsion in the expansion tank indicates either a burned cylinder head or a broken oil cooler.
  • Using water instead of coolant or an unsuitable coolant will cause the plates to oxidize.
  • Pay attention to oil changes within the timeframes recommended by the manufacturer and with the right oil.
icona Tips
  • Clean the lubrication system before changing the oil
  • Use high-quality engine oil
  • Use only the coolant recommended by the manufacturer
  • Choosing a high-quality exchanger
